Three Great Men

The governor wrote a letter to Emperor Constantine about the wonders God had worked through Saint Mar Okeen, and how he had raised his nephew from the dead. When the righteous Emperor Constantine read the governor’s letter, he rose, prayed, praised and glorified our Lord Jesus Christ, and wrote a reply to the governor, saying:

“I thank our Lord Jesus Christ that in the time of my reign there are three holy men like pillars, whom God has raised up to shine with their true light on all people, to drive the darkness from their hearts, to heal their troubled thoughts from all the passions of sin that the evil sower sows, to cleanse the soil of souls from spiritual blights, and to sow in it good seed, which is the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ, our God. These three men seem weak, yet they are mighty men who have driven out demons; they seem poor strangers, yet they have made many rich. They are the strugglers: Saint Anba Antony in the land of Egypt, Mar Allonias on the coast, and Mar Okeen, who came out of the land of Egypt, settled in your country and gave it light. We ask him to pray before our Master Jesus Christ to keep all our provinces and our kingdom until the day when the mercy of the Sun of Righteousness, our Lord Jesus Christ, comes down and gathers us all into His Kingdom, through their accepted prayers.”

So the righteous Emperor Constantine wrote to the governor and to the venerable elder, Saint Mar Okeen, asking him to pray for his kingdom.
