His Life

The Departure of Saint Mar Okeen

The saint stretched out his hands and feet and delivered his pure soul into the hands of our Lord Jesus Christ. In that hour the cell was filled with sweet fragrance. His disciples prayed over him and performed his funeral rites with great reverence, weeping over him, for they had become orphans of this spiritual father and were deprived of his spiritual words. Then they buried him beside the altar of the Lord, saying, “May the Lord guide us and govern us through his prayers. Amen.”

The Writer of His Life

This is the Life of Saint Mar Okeen, written by his disciple Michael. Many are the healings the Lord worked through Saint Mar Okeen, and many too are the cities in which the saint preached and made disciples for our Lord Jesus Christ that are not written in this Life. The writer asks pardon for this, because the king at that time urgently asked the saint’s disciples to set down the Life of Saint Mar Okeen, so this disciple, who was close to the saint, wrote this fragrant Life of the great Saint Mar Okeen in a short time.

May the blessing of his prayers be with us. Amen.

Saint Mar Okeen departed on 21 April 363 AD.

In 1707 Patriarch Joseph II gave official recognition to the Life of Mar Awgin (Mar Okeen).
