Volume One · 146 pages
Diploma of the Institute of Coptic Studies, Cairo, studies at Leiden University, the Netherlands; member of the Society of Coptic Archaeology. Reviewed, with a foreword, by H.G. Anba Samuel, Bishop of Shebin El-Qanater.
The book studies the beginnings of Christian art in general and sheds light on Coptic art and its relation to the other Christian arts, affirming its particular character and the leading role of the Copts: from the beginnings of Christian art and the icon as a message, to the Fayoum portraits, the features of the Coptic icon, and the precedence of Coptic art over Byzantine art. It is the first volume of a series the author meant to continue. The book is in Arabic.
